Silicone Kitchen Utensils

Anyone who has used an electric griddle knows that you need to be careful when it comes to cooking utensils. That trusty metal spatula that works so well with your cast iron skillet will ruin the surface on your griddle in no time, making it almost useless for future cooking. You may love using your wooden spoon for stirring ingredients and moving them around while cooking, but you may find that it doesn’t work as well with a griddle.

Non Stick Surfaces Need Special Utensils

Non stick surfaces, often called Teflon coated (Teflon is actually a brand name) are wonderful. They are so easy to clean and food won’t stick to it, no matter what that food is made of. Sticky foods wipe right off, and even burned on foods come off with a simple wipe of a cloth.

Modern non-stick pans and other surfaces are made using a coating treatment. The pan itself, or in the case of your electric griddle, the flat, is usually made from steel. Some pans or other cooking vessels may be made from ceramic, aluminum or stone. All of these materials can be coated with a non-stick treatment. This coating can handle very high heats for long periods of time, and food will not be able to stick to it. It has been rightfully called a miracle invention.

However, as wonderful as non-stick surfaces are, they do require care in both use and cleaning. Cleaning needs to be down with non-caustic cleaners. A scouring pad will scratch and mar your pans non stick surface in no time. Same with some harsh dishwasher detergents. They have gritty particles in them that help clean your dishes but can scratch non stick surfaces quite easily.

Silicone Kitchen Utensils To The Rescue

Silicone kitchen utensils are actually silicone rubber, a hard but durable material that is very user friendly with non stick surfaces. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to scratch or chip your electric griddle’s surface with a silicone spatula or flipper. Silicone kitchen tools are the only utensils that should be used with your griddle. Anything else will mar and possibly ruin your griddles smooth, non-stick cooking surface.

You will want to have a few silicone kitchen tools on hand, they aren’t terrible costly and you will be surprised at the different tasks you can use them for. Spatulas, or flippers, are the perfect tool for flipping hamburgers or pancakes. Having a silicone whisk is handy for making scrambled eggs on your electric griddle. It will move the eggs around without smashing them, all while keeping your cooking surface pristine.

Easy Clean Up!

Finally, it’s time to clean up. Your griddle is easy to clean, thanks to the non stick surface. Even easier is cleaning your cooking tools. Silicone utensils can be tossed into the dishwasher, no special care is required. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
